Skills Bootcamps

Selnet are excited to bring two sets of Skills Bootcamps to Lancashire entrepreneurs! 

Our Skills Bootcamps in Sales & Marketing and Social Media are for enterprising individuals to develop skills that can grow income, win new contracts, or launch business ideas.

Skills Bootcamps are intensive but flexible courses designed to give individuals the opportunity to build up sector specific skills. This is fully funded learning and to be eligible you:

  • Are aged 19 or over by the 31st August 2025
  • Live in Lancashire, including Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool* (or are a qualifying refugee)
  • Can commit the time to complete the full programme, and have a real desire to increase your earnings

Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Department for Education and form part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life.

Sales & Marketing Skills Bootcamp: Key Information

  • Duration: 12 weeks, began on 8th September 2025 and will be completed in November 2025. Our second Sales & Marketing Skills Bootcamp will begin on Monday 1st December 2025 and is open for applications now (with this round running from 9:30am-12:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays) – apply here.
  • Format: Online via Zoom.
  • Schedule: 3 hour sessions, twice a week must be attended (apart from exceptional circumstances).
  • Total Learning Hours: 72 hours of guided learning including developing a SMART plan for your business.

Alistair is a highly experienced trainer and accredited business advisor with extensive experience of supporting social businesses and private businesses to launch, grow and diversify their products and services.

The first 20 years of Alistair’s career were in broadcast radio so he enjoys advising creative companies and brings many skills to clients about marketing, communications and effective use of social media.

Alistair is a business friend who aspiring entrepreneurs can talk to, and to help ease their worry and stress of starting a new business. Through his professional experience, Alistair supports business leaders to gain the confidence to get out there and make their business work.

Social Media Skills Bootcamp: Key Information

  • Duration: 16 weeks, began on 1st August 2025 and will be completed in November 2025.  Our second Social Media Skills Bootcamp will begin on Friday 28th November 2025 (9:30am – 1:30pm) and is open for applications nowapply here.
  • Format: Online via Zoom.
  • Schedule: 4 hours, once a week must be attended (apart from exceptional circumstances).
  • Total Learning Hours: 64 hours of guided learning including developing a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable Relevant & Time-bound) business plan.

Our Social Media Skills Bootcamp tutor is Lucie Higham!

Lucie is a highly experienced digital marketing specialist and a former journalist, with over 30 years’ experience and expertise in social media training and coaching.

Lucie’s Social Media Skills Bootcamp will bring her passion, knowledge and real-life experience on how social media can be used – all for entrepreneurs to actively engage new clients, audiences and opportunities.

Sales & Marketing Skills Bootcamp

Each Monday and Thursday for 12 weeks the Sales & Marketing Media Skills Bootcamps are being delivered online from 12:00 – 15:00.

Beginning on Friday 8th September 2025, there are two 3-hour online session per week (72 x Guided Learning Hours), with two sets of 3 hour ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ Events (6 x Guided Learning Hours) which are opportunities to network with like-minded, ambitious entrepreneurs and business owners from Lancashire, sharing individual start up journeys and the challenges faced along the way.

The 12-week curriculum is outlined below:*

  1. Introductions and Course Outline – Group Icebreakers
  2. Understanding the buying organisation and environment: Understanding your customers and the ideal customer profile
  3. Understanding the buying organisation and environment: Understanding your value proposition and creating a winning sales team
  4. Understanding the buying organisation and environment: Understanding buyer types and reaching the right sort of customers.
  5. Understanding the buying organisation and environment: Winning business from new customers and keeping the customers, you have
  6. Measuring Success: Making and closing the sale, 5 steps face-to-face negotiation
  7. Measuring Success: Personal Selling, overcome objections, planning the questions and presenting the solution
  8. Meet the Entrepreneur: Story Telling and Q&A
  9. Measuring Success: Professional Selling, build an approach that helps you focus on qualified opportunities, make a winning engagement and generate lifetime customers
  10. Measuring Success: Success Factor – developing a winning mindset. 10 principles that construct a winning mindset and the tactics of ambitious individuals
  11. Leverage technology to automate and grow sales: Using the latest technology platforms to quickly scale marketing activities to attract, engage and close more customers in less time and for less cost
  12. Meet the Entrepreneur: Story Telling and Q&A

*Please note: The Skills Bootcamp content is subject to change based on needs and demands.

Ongoing support: Subsequent to the 12 weeks of training, there will be ongoing pastoral support available to all entrepreneurs involved.

6 month review: After 6 months there will be a review on the impacts achieved based on the individual business plans developed by each entrepreneur who participated in the Skills Bootcamps.

  2. Digital Marketing Fundamentals: Understanding the basics of Digital Marketing
  3. Social media: Learn how to leverage social media to grow your personal brand, connect with potential clients, and increase visibility
  4. Instagram: Profile, Post, Stories & Reels, Analytics and Reporting
  5. Facebook: Introduction to the basics, the business Facebook page, business suite and analytics
  6. LinkedIn: Content plan, growing connections, building a profile
  7. Tik Tok & You Tube: Basics, content creation & strategies, uploading content
  8. Meet the Entrepreneur: Story Telling and Q&A
  9. Content Marketing: Learn to create valuable, engaging content that resonates with your target market
  10. SEO & Google Business Profile: Keyword optimisation, local SEO strategies, and profile management
  11. Marketing Analytics: Understanding and analysing marketing metrics
  12. Website Building & Email Marketing: Learn how to use WordPress. Discover the techniques used in e-mail marketing
  13. Meet the Entrepreneur: Story Telling and Q&A
  14. Building Your Marketing Future Part 1: Create a Marketing Strategy Plan to elevate your business
  15. Building Your Marketing Future Part 2: Create a Marketing Strategy Plan to elevate your business
  16. Meet the Entrepreneur: Story Telling and Q&A
