Who we are

Selnet’s background

Social Enterprise Lancashire Network (Selnet) was established in 2005 by a group of Social Enterprise practitioners who recognised the support needed for voluntary & community organisations and social businesses to flourish.

Since then Selnet has evolved into an organisation with an established track record and strategic position in the North West. Due to its successful delivery of programmes and the cohesive Lancashire network Selnet is recognised as the voice of Social Enterprises within the county, representing the interests of the Lancashire social businesses at regional and national level. Bringing resources into the county to enable these businesses to grow, local communities to prosper and individuals to benefit from services and engage within their local area.

A social enterprise by definition Selnet now deliver a number of programmes that provide and facilitate mutual support amongst these organisations in addition to providing business development support to start-up and established Social Enterprise.

Selnet has a membership base of around 100 social enterprises who subscribe to an annual membership.

A Message from the Chair
David Allen

We are proud to be one of the UK’s top 100 social enterprises and the lead infrastructure organisation supporting social enterprises across Lancashire. The county has a plethora of diverse organisations delivering true social values.

Since 2007, Selnet have brought in significant amounts of funding into Lancashire, including taking advantage of European Structural Investment programmes and creating partnership opportunities for social enterprises to increase their social impact.

Projects including ‘Building Better Opportunities’ that helps increase skills and employment opportunities for residents furthest away from work, and ‘DR!VE’ supporting business to prosper, both contributing to £23million funding managed through Selnet.

We are passionate about social enterprise, we believe it has the power to change the world and we want to play our part in facilitating that change. If you would like to discuss how we can support your organisation, please get in touch with a member of the Selnet team.
