About Us

Social Enterprise Solutions CIC supports the start-up, development and growth of social enterprises primarily in the northwest.

Registered in May 2006 as the first Community Interest Company in Blackpool, our foundation Directors have many years of experience in running businesses and of social enterprise infrastructure development. In the2010 RBS SE100 data report we were listed as the 3rd fastest growing social business in the northwest and 23rd in the UK.

The company has grown rapidly, notably winning contracts from Blackpool Council, Knowsley MBC and 3SC. These contracts have enabled us to develop social enterprises across the northwest.

As thought leaders on social enterprise development and innovation, we are consulted by Local Authorities, Primary Care Trusts, NHS Hospital Foundation Trusts, Housing Associations and Schools as they seek to implement the government’s agenda on social enterprise growth.

Our reach now covers the whole of the northwest through our successful delivery of over 150 Future Jobs Fund placements which has resulted in 20% permanent staff retention.

We provide a bespoke service adapted to each client’s needs, including:

  • Training to public sector staff, from awareness raising through to advanced levels, on understanding the social enterprise business model
  • Project management
  • Idea generation
  • Advice on social enterprise legal structures, business planning, marketing and growth
  • Social Accounting

We also work with and advise many private sector organisations as they seek to understand and engage with the social enterprise business model.

Tony Carr of Social Enterprise Solutions won our Social Enterprise Champion award in 2021.

About Us

Smile Mediation is celebrating 21 years delivering mediation interventions, conflict coaching and skills training qualifications within the social housing, corporate and community sector. Smile delivers unique community projects that utilise mediation skills and techniques; in this way Smile empowers grass roots groups to develop better ways of communicating, upskilling and building capacity across neighbourhoods to reduce the distressing impact of destructive conflict.

Our services have developed to meet the needs of our partners, we deliver intra-family mediation to people in recovery from substance misuse, troubled families, and our unique hate crime programme working with offenders. Smile regularly facilitates large community and workplace conflicts involving multiple parties.

Every mediation intervention is different because the individuals involved in the dispute bring their own unique perspective, emotional responses and historic experience. Smile delivers a person-centred mediation service and this is embedded in our College of Mediators accredited mediation skills training. Our mediators are supported through ongoing CPD and supervision to ensure high quality standards of competence and practice.
